Did you know you have 2-3 pounds of bacteria in your gut? When the ratio of bad bacteria outweighs the number of good bacteria, it’s then that we start to see and feel some symptoms of imbalance. When this happens, your immune system is compromised. 70-80% of your immune system is contained in your gut or intestinal tract. Good health depends on you having an adequate amount of good bacteria to keep your immune system intact.
Overuse of antibiotics is one of the top reasons this can be compromised. Antibiotics do a great job of killing bacteria in your body, especially if your body is fighting off a bacterial infection. The problem is that antibiotics will also kill the good bacteria in your body. Even worse is that the bad bacteria, just like a weed in your lawn, will grow much faster than the good bacteria and overtake the balance of good to bad.
Enter Candida. Candida is a fungus. Candida Albicans is the most common form. It’s actually present in all of us, and it has a role to play in our bodies. It’s when the balance of bacteria in your GI tract becomes out-of-balance and candida overgrows that it becomes systemic and we have a problem.
How do you know if you have a candida overgrowth? Unfortunately, about 80% of Americans do. We can thank our S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) on that, as well as over-use of antibiotics, birth control pills and even pregnancy (progesterone), steroids, and high-stress levels.
Here are some of the most common symptoms of Candida overgrowth: exhaustion, craving sweets, constant hunger, sadness, joint pain, brain fog, hormone imbalance, stubborn excess weight, chronic congestion or seasonal discomfort, urinary or vaginal infections, weakened immune system and digestive issues.
Sound familiar?
If you are suffering from the symptoms listed above, I recommend a Candida cleanse. After a cleanse, you can expect a strengthened immune system, to feel less hungry, weight loss, increased energy, and you may find your mind is less foggy!
April’s Candida Cleanse:
Start out slow if you’ve never done a cleanse before. Drinking warm water with lemon (or a drop or two of lemon essential oil in the morning before anything else will provide a gentle cleanse. It’s especially good for cleansing your liver. Milk Thistle is also very good at cleansing the liver.
I would then suggest a blend of herbs or essential oils (Detoxification Blend soft gels and Complex) that will help detox and support all of your filtering organs such as your liver, kidneys, colon, lungs, and skin. By doing this next, you will be cleaning out the exit paths for toxins. Making a cleanse much more effective.
You will also want to avoid sugar, alcohol, and carbs. Candida loves to feed on this and if you avoid it as much as possible during a cleanse you will have better results.
Oregano, lavender, myrrh and arborvitae oils are a great place to start. If using internally, again research what you’re using. I always dilute my oregano essential oil. It is a hot oil.
I dilute it with coconut oil or olive oil in an empty veggie capsule. Take this for 10 days or less.
I also have a GI Cleansing product that does the same thing and comes in a soft gel. It will help cleanse your digestive tract from pathogens and unwanted bacteria, keeping in place the good bacteria that is essential for gut health.
You can also use this on the bottom of your feet instead if you don’t’ want to take this internally. Just prick open the capsule and empty onto your feet. I suggest covering your feet with cotton socks to keep the oils from evaporating so quickly.
Either using essential oils or essential oil blends to clean out candida and parasite overgrowth and/or grapeseed fruit extract, or even just ingesting a tablespoon of organic coconut oil daily will help rid your body of unwanted bad bacteria. Yes, the texture might take some getting used to.
I would then follow a cleanse with a pre-and pro-biotic for at least 10-30 days.
